About the template
What this tiler invoice template covers and why it gets paid faster
Tiler invoices stall when the substrate prep on the bill is for more metres than was actually done, or when the membrane warranty is not stated. Clients accepted a quote with explicit per-sq-m rates; the invoice needs to show the actual metres applied to each rate so the maths is auditable.
The template below repeats the lay rate, substrate metres, and membrane spec from the quote on each line, billed on actuals where applicable. Plus the membrane warranty (length, conditions, start date) as a footnote so the client has a service record. Deposit shown as a negative line so the final balance is unambiguous.
What to include
Every tilers invoice should have these lines

Common mistakes on tilers invoices
The patterns that quietly lose jobs, get queried at payment time, or leave money on the table.
Mistake: Substrate prep billed on quoted metres instead of actuals
Better: Bill the metres that actually needed prep. 'Substrate repair (actual 6m² of 8m² quoted)' is auditable; billing the full 8 m² when only 6 were used reads as overbilling.
Mistake: Membrane warranty missing on the invoice
Better: State the membrane brand, warranty length, and conditions: 'Mapei Mapelastic, 10-year warranty'. Locks in the spec and gives the client a warranty record without an extra document.
Mistake: Tile origin and spec missing
Better: Repeat the tile description: 'Italian porcelain, rectified 600x600'. Confirms what was installed and stops substitution disputes later.
Mistake: Deposit not shown as a negative line
Better: Show 'Less deposit paid 18 May (40%): -$ 2,152'. Client verifies what is owed without needing to check their bank statement.
Mistake: No due date stated
Better: Write 'Payment due within 7 days' on every tiler invoice. Residential clients drift to 30 days without an explicit due date.
Mistake: Banking details on a separate page
Better: Banking name, account number, and the invoice number as the payment reference, all visible on the invoice itself. Easier to copy on a phone, faster to pay.
FAQ
Tilers invoice template questions
Everything tilers ask before they switch to a structured invoice.
Quote reference, actual sq m for each rate, tile and membrane spec repeated, warranty length, deposit deduction, tax line, payment terms, and banking details.
Yes. Quote the per-sq-m rate and bill only the metres that actually needed prep. Show the actual figure on the invoice so the client can audit it.
The warranty is the value the client paid for. Stating the brand, length, and conditions on the invoice gives the client a service record and protects you from substitution disputes years later.
7 to 14 days from issue date for residential. Some clients with property managers expect 30 days; state explicitly so there is no drift.
If the deposit covered material and the job came in under, show the deposit deduction as a negative line. If the final invoice is smaller than the deposit, issue a credit invoice or pay the difference back.
For most bathroom retiles, deposit on acceptance and balance on completion is enough. For full house tiling, consider three stages (deposit, on lay-complete, on grout-complete) so cashflow stays positive across a multi-week job.
