About the template

What this tiler quote template covers and why it wins more bathroom work

Tilers lose jobs in the quote when waterproofing is hidden inside the per-square-metre lay rate and substrate prep is left out. A bathroom retile that did not budget for self-levelling compound or liquid membrane runs over on labour, eats your margin, and ends in an argument over scope. The template below makes each layer of the install visible.

Strip existing tiles as its own line at a per-square-metre rate. Substrate repair and self-levelling separately, billed only on the metres that needed it. Liquid membrane waterproofing per square metre with the brand and warranty stated. Porcelain wall and floor tile (supply and lay) at the full rate. Trims, corner pieces, and grout/seal/clean down as their own lines. Each visible line stops the cheap competitor's quote making yours look expensive on the total.

Avoid these

Common mistakes on tilers quotes

The patterns that quietly lose jobs, get queried at payment time, or leave money on the table.

Mistake: Waterproofing rolled into the lay rate

Better: Show liquid membrane per sq m as its own line with brand and warranty. Clients see the spec, and a 10-year warranty justifies the cost against a cheaper non-membrane quote.

Mistake: Substrate prep priced on all metres instead of only the ones that need it

Better: Quote substrate repair and self-levelling per sq m with the actual metres needing prep. Lump-sum prep on the whole area either overcharges (lost job) or undercharges (lost margin).

Mistake: Tile spec not named

Better: State the tile: porcelain, ceramic, rectified, large-format (600x1200). Each has different lay rates and waste percentages. Vague spec invites a price-shop on cheaper tile.

Mistake: No waste allowance

Better: Lay rate should bake in 7 to 10 percent cutting waste for standard formats, 12 to 15 percent for large-format or pattern lays. Otherwise the offcuts come out of your margin.

Mistake: No deposit for tile supply

Better: Take 40 percent on acceptance to cover tile purchase. Imported porcelain has lead times and is non-returnable once cut. State the deposit in the quote terms.

Mistake: Trims and grout absorbed into the tile line

Better: Show trims, corner pieces, silicone, grout, and clean down as separate lines. Each is a real cost and showing them stops the client thinking 'just tiles' is the whole price.

FAQ

Tilers quote template questions

Everything tilers ask before they switch to a structured quote.

Strip-out per sq m, substrate prep, liquid membrane per sq m with brand and warranty, tile spec named, supply and lay per sq m, trims and grout as separate lines, tax line, deposit terms, and banking details.

No. Quote it per sq m and bill on the actual metres that need it. Old screed and uneven floors need self-levelling; sound substrate does not. Show the rate but only bill what is used.

40 percent on acceptance is standard for jobs over a few hundred dollars, because tile is non-returnable once cut and imported lines have lead times. State it in the quote terms.

Always. Brand and warranty matter (Mapei, Laticrete, generic). A 10-year warranty justifies the price against a cheaper non-membrane quote and stops the conversation about whether membrane was 'really needed'.

Higher lay rate ($ 95 to $ 130 per sq m vs $ 60 to $ 90 for standard) plus higher waste allowance (12 to 15 percent vs 7 to 10). State both on the quote so the price is defensible against a standard-format quote.

Quote labour only at the per-sq-m lay rate plus prep and grout. State that you cannot warranty the tile itself (cracking, lippage) when supplied by the client. Lay warranty stays with you.
