About the template

What this bricklayer quote template covers and why it wins more walls

Bricklayers lose work in the quote when face brick supply is bundled with labour and the mortar materials line is missing. A homeowner pricing a single-storey extension wants to see brick count, mortar materials, lay rate per square metre, and scaffold separately. Each visible line makes the quote auditable and the cheaper competitor's lump-sum quote look thin.

The template below itemises face brick supply per unit (with named brick type), cement and sand and lime for mortar as a separate line, lay rate per square metre with supply included, the internal plaster brick skin separately because it lays at a different rate, scaffolding hire by the week, and clean-down and point-up on completion.

What to include

Every bricklayers quote should have these lines

Use it as a checklist when you build your quote from scratch, or pull the QuoteGenio template that already has them.

Avoid these

Common mistakes on bricklayers quotes

The patterns that quietly lose jobs, get queried at payment time, or leave money on the table.

Mistake: Brick spec not named

Better: Name the brick: NFX, FBX, semi-face, common. Each has very different price and look. A late substitution to a cheaper brick is a real cost and you need the paper trail.

Mistake: Mortar materials bundled into labour

Better: Show cement, sand, and lime as their own line. Mortar is real cost (typically 8 to 12 percent of total). Hidden, it gets shaved off when the client haggles.

Mistake: Lay rate without specifying supply included

Better: State whether the per-square-metre lay rate includes brick supply or is labour only. Vague rates lose to competitors who clarified up front.

Mistake: Scaffolding rolled into labour

Better: Two-storey work needs scaffold. Quote it by the week, separately. Without scaffold it is a daywork nightmare and the client thinks they got a 'discount' on labour when they were quoted unsafely.

Mistake: No DPC or weep hole spec

Better: Name the DPC type (visqueen, bituminous) and the weep hole spacing. Building inspectors check it; clients sometimes do too. Vague spec invites rework demands.

Mistake: Clean-down absent from the quote

Better: Brick dust and mortar splatter clean-down is a day of work. Add 'clean down and point up' as its own line so you are paid for the trip back.

FAQ

Bricklayers quote template questions

Everything bricklayers ask before they switch to a structured quote.

Brick count and type, mortar materials, lay rate per sq m, internal skin separately, scaffolding, lintels and DPC, clean-down, tax, deposit terms, and banking details.

30 days for most jobs. Cement and brick prices move with the exchange rate. State the validity so you can re-quote cleanly if the client comes back after that window.

Yes. 30 percent on acceptance to cover brick delivery (bricks are non-returnable once delivered to site). Progress payment at half-walls, balance on completion.

Mortar is 8 to 12 percent of total cost. Showing it as a line educates the client that brickwork is not just bricks. Bundled into labour, it gets undervalued.

By the week. Scaffold hire is week-based, and quoting by the week protects you if the job runs over. State the expected duration so the client sees the calculation.

Different lay rates. Face brick (visible, no plaster) is slower and needs cleaner work. Plaster brick (will be plastered over) lays faster. Show both rates if the job has both.
