Gutter Installer Pricing Guide

How much do gutters cost to install in 2026?

Per-metre rates by region, common job prices, what drives the cost, and how to write a gutter quote that wins.

For Gutter installers

The short answer

Gutter installers typically charge $55 to $110 per hour

$30 to $75 per linear metre installed. Here is what tradies actually charge in 2026 and how the price gets built.

Gutter installers typically quote per linear metre rather than hourly. Standard 100mm Colorbond gutter runs $28 to $55 per linear metre installed. Premium quad or D-line profiles run $45 to $75 per linear metre. A full gutter replacement on a standard 3-bedroom home (40-60 linear metres) runs $1,800 to $4,500. Adding leaf guard mesh adds $25 to $55 per metre. Downpipe replacement runs $80 to $180 per downpipe. Pricing depends on profile, material grade, gutter height, fascia condition, and whether colour-matched downpipes are needed.

What drives the price

Six things that change the price of a job

The same job can cost 2x more or less depending on these factors. Knowing them helps customers spot fair quotes and helps tradies justify their own.

Material grade

Colorbond is the standard. Aluminium is more expensive but rust-proof. Copper and zinc are premium ($120-250/m). State the material and gauge on the quote.

Profile choice

Quad gutters are standard ($28-55/m). D-line modern profile is $45-75/m. Half-round traditional $65-110/m. Box gutters $120-250/m. State the profile on the quote.

Building height

Single-storey is fast. Two-storey needs scaffold or boom-lift. Steep pitches need harness work. Quote scaffold separately or pass through at cost.

Fascia condition

Good fascia is screw-and-fit. Rotted fascia needs replacement before gutters. Survey fascia before quoting and quote replacement as a contingency line.

Downpipe complexity

Straight downpipes are simple. Bent or concealed downpipes through walls cost 2-3x more. State downpipe count and routing on the quote.

Leaf guard addition

Mesh ($25-55/m) protects gutters from blockage but adds upfront cost. Pays back over 5-10 years in avoided cleaning. Quote at install time; conversion is high if quoted upfront.

How to quote it

How gutter installers should price their work

Tips for tradies on writing quotes that win the job and protect the margin.

Quote per linear metre with profile

'52m of Colorbond quad in Surfmist at $42/m' beats 'gutter replacement $2,200'. Customers can verify what they're paying for.

Itemise downpipes separately

'Quad gutter $42/m, downpipes $130 each (5 total)'. Customers see the breakdown and can swap downpipe count if budget tightens.

Offer leaf guard at quote time

Mesh adds 30-50% to the gutter cost but eliminates annual cleaning costs. Quote at install time; conversion is 40-60% vs 5-10% sold later.

Take a 30% deposit

Custom-length gutters are ordered specifically. 30% covers the order. Stage payments cover labour milestones.

Quote fascia repair contingency

'$45/m fascia replacement if rot found, customer approval before proceeding'. Sets up the variation conversation before excavation reveals the problem.

Send drone or roof-walk photos via WhatsApp

Customers paying $3,000 for gutter replacement need to see the work. Before/after drone photos triple referrals.

Watch out for

Pricing red flags to watch for

The patterns that usually signal a problem on the quote, with what to do about each one.

Verbal quote on a $1,500+ job

What to do: Always written. Gutter work has too many variables (profile, material, fascia, downpipes, leaf guard) for verbal. Insist on line items.

No fascia inspection

What to do: An installer who quotes without inspecting the fascia is bidding on hope. Rotted fascia under new gutters means the gutter sags and fails within 2-5 years.

Generic 'Colorbond' without colour

What to do: Colorbond has 22 colours. 'Standard Colorbond' usually means the cheapest stock colour. Insist on customer-choice colour from the brochure.

Cash-only with no invoice

What to do: Walk away. Without an invoice you have no warranty, no insurance claim path, and no proof of work for resale.

No insurance certificate

What to do: Gutter work is height work; public liability is essential. Without cover, ladder accidents on your property or damage to roof tiles is your loss.

Pressure to skip the warranty document

What to do: Quality gutter installers offer 10-25 year material warranties (manufacturer) and 5-10 year workmanship warranties. State both on the quote in writing.

FAQ

Gutter installers pricing questions, answered

Everything customers and tradies ask about gutter installer pricing.

Standard Colorbond quad: $28-55/m in the US, £22-45/m in the UK, A$35-65/m in Australia, R140-340/m in South Africa, C$30-55/m in Canada. Premium profiles (D-line, half-round, copper) cost 50-200% more.

Quality Colorbond gutters last 15-30 years; copper and zinc last 50+ years. Replacement triggers: visible rust holes, leaks at joints, sag along runs, persistent overflows during rain. Most homes need replacement once in 20-25 years.

Worth it if surrounded by trees: pine, eucalyptus, oak shed heavy debris. Pays back in 5-10 years through avoided cleaning costs and prevents downpipe blockages. Not needed for homes without trees nearby.

For gutter work over $1,500, yes 2-3 quotes. Compare material grade, profile, downpipe count, fascia inspection, and warranty length. Cheapest often skips fascia inspection or uses sub-grade Colorbond.

Quad: traditional rectangular profile, cheapest, holds more water. D-line: modern half-round profile, premium look. Half-round: traditional bullnose, used on heritage homes. Box gutter: concealed, internal, commercial use. State on quote.

Gutters bolt to fascia boards. Rotted fascia can't hold gutters; they sag and rip out in storms. Inspecting fascia at quote time, and replacing rot before gutters, is what makes the install last 25 years vs 5.

Standard 3-bed single-storey: 1-2 days. Two-storey with awkward access: 2-3 days. Fascia replacement adds 1 day. Commercial buildings: 1-2 weeks for full perimeter replacement.

Yes, twice a year minimum (autumn after leaf-drop, spring before heavy rains). Cost: $220-550 per visit for a standard home. Leaf guard reduces this to once every 2-3 years.

For gutter work over $1,500: 30% deposit on signing, 60% on material delivery and install start, 10% on completion. Anyone asking for full payment upfront is a risk.

Get the profile, material grade, colour, downpipe count, fascia inspection, warranty length, and labour day count upfront in writing. Pay via banking app. Verbal cash deals are how 'cheap' gutter jobs become $5,000 callbacks 3 years later.
